My name is Taylor Elizabeth and I am The Elegance Advisor, a modern etiquette coach and image consultant. I have a passion for guiding parents as they raise polite children with positive attitudes, and good manners. My simple and effective methods for building the skills and confidence needed for young children to use their best manners are an extension of what I have learned through my years of training, coaching, and raising my own blended family. Gone are the days of books on your head and sitting quietly while an instructor tells you all the things you can't do. In my mission to rebrand etiquette, I have developed an approach that has made etiquette fun and exciting for children to participate in. I will guide parents through games to play with their children, how to navigate teachable moments, and books they can read with their children to instill these core values during our everyday lives. This depends on your child Once they are sitting at the table. 1.Using a fork - utensil control 2.Using a napkin 3.Asking to pass things not reaching 4.Around 3-4 chewing with mouth closed or starting to understand the idea and not talking with the mouth full 5.Continuing to develop utensil usage 6.ages 4 -5 continuing of the chewing with mouth closed and not full Keeping napkin on the lap 7.ages 5-6 all of the above continues but adding in conversation and hand positioning depending on how you eat at home. The best time would be once your child is sitting with you at the table. It’s never too early nor too late. The key is to be consistent have realistic expectations, and encourage age-appropriate. It's never too early to start teaching children what utensils to use, how to wipe their faces, and which foods they can eat with their hands or not. How to keep a napkin on their lap and use it and utensil control. There are different manners to focus on in each age group. less

Generally speaking limit distractions ( iPad /tv), have the meal prepared where they can eat It easily (cut and ready), and mix in foods they love with perhaps ones they love a little less to help set the pace. Portion control may also help- put less on the plate and then give more when finished. Eat with them so you can softly encourage it. Depending on the age because of motor skills and attention span this requires more patience. It’s better not to rush them too much when they are trying to adopt a skill like using a fork or knife. less

Each child is different and even as adults we make a mess sometimes and it can also depend on what’s being eaten. But generally speaking, it’s a question of small motor skills and utensil control. This is more developed around 8-10 years. To encourage it be present when they are eating to Help them with utensil control and encourage them. Practice makes perfect. less
