Or are they? With today’s celebrity culture and the documentation of celebrities’ lives on social media, we look to them for fashion and lifestyle inspiration. But should we also look to them for parenting advice?
There are so many different ways to parent and we’re all doing our best! It’s just that our parenting styles don’t make headlines, and our actions are not discussed worldwide.
While we don’t like to shame people for their choices, there are times when we can’t help but raise an eyebrow. Usually it’s when a celebrity publicly imparts some, um … unconventional parenting advice! Let’s look at a few.
Strict Diets
When it comes to strict diets, Gwyneth Paltrow’s got it covered. She famously banned all junk food, and had her children on a strict, low-carb, gluten-free diet. Her published cookbook contains recipes with no dairy, eggs, sugar, wheat, meat or soy. Readers could, however, make a frozen cauliflower smoothie. Delicious!
Pre-Mastication
Actress Alicia Silverstone famously released a video of herself chewing up solid food sanitary risks. If the idea of chewing food into puree form doesn’t grab you, why not check out our Baby Bullet? It’s a complete baby food making system; making an entire week’s worth of healthy, nutritional baby food in under five minutes! No chewing required.
Attachment Parenting
When you read about attachment parenting, chances are Mayim Bialik will be mentioned. The Big Bang Theory actress, 43, advises parents to be in close physical contact with their children at all times, advocating natural childbirth, co-sleeping, baby wearing, and extensive breastfeeding. Bialik herself breastfed her son until the age of four.
Strict Rules
When it comes to rules, Madonna famously has a hard and fast list; including no TV, newspapers or magazines, no clothing containing man-made fibres, no toys that are “spiritually unsound,” and a strict macrobiotic diet.
Infant Potty Training
Supermodel Gisele Bundchen came into the spotlight when she revealed she was potty training her son at six months old. Known as ‘Elimination Communication,’ parents rely on observing their child’s body language, facial expressions and verbal cues. Eeek. For the less adventurous, check out our extensive range of diapers, accessories and potty training items at mumzworld.
Helicopter Parenting
Some parents adopt a helicopter-like tendency to stay close to their children, ready to pounce at the first sign of danger or trouble. And it doesn’t just apply to toddlers and young children! Even when shifting into adulthood, parents can still monitor their children’s every move to ensure their success, with strong input into their daily lives, jobs and relationships. They shield children from experiencing failure and disappointment. Kris Jenner is a prime example!
For new mums, it’s natural to have some of these tendencies, so from baby monitors to babyproofing devices, we’ve got you covered!
See, it take all kinds to make the world go round! Don’t worry about what celebrities are doing … choose a parenting style that suits you, and ensures your children are happy, healthy and positive.
