Best Baby Carry Seat 2018

Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus

Of the carry seats we tested, Maxi-Cosi’s Pebble Plus seat came out top for safety and comfort, as well as having lots of handy features to make travelling easier than ever

The Pebble Plus is an i-Size seat which can be attached through either Isofix (the base is included) or with the car seat belt. Both felt extremely secure, but we’d recommend using Isofix, as the base lights up and beeps to let you know that the seat is correctly installed. Some might find this annoying, but we loved the added peace of mind in knowing the seat was secure. In fact, the entire installation process is intuitive and straightforward, taking minutes from holding the seat to being ready to go.

This Maxi Cosi car seat is rear facing only in line with safety regulations, which only allow forward-facing seats at 15 months. As this seat is designed for one year of use, it comes with a newborn insert which can be easily added or removed as needed. It’s worth knowing that the insert makes the seat very warm, which is something to watch out for on hot summer days. The straps are snug and tighten well; even our tester’s mini escapologist couldn’t wriggle out!

In terms of comfort, the Pebble Plus car seat does what it says on the tin. The baby-hugg inlay looked and felt supremely comfortable, and the top side wings make a cosy headrest. According to Maxi Cosi, the seat is made with “impact absorbing material” designed to protect your baby in the event of side impact collisions – and while we didn’t really notice a difference, anything that adds to the safety performance of a car seat is a plus point in our book.

The Pebble Plus scored highly for ease of use, and our tester found putting her child in simple and stress free, even when in a rush. The attachment itself is easy to fit, as well as easy to adjust. Removing the seat was also smooth, and completely possible without waking the baby. However, removing it from a travel system chassis was another story; the buttons have to both be pressed and the seat pulled up at the same time, so you end up simultaneously pushing down and lifting up. To be honest, it’s a real faff, and surprising as the rest of the attachments are so smooth and simple.
