The Toys that Everyone Should Have at Home

The Toys that Everyone Should Have at Home

There are a few basic things that should be in every house. One of those things are toys that are open-ended, flexible and able to adapt as children grow and learn. All of these suggested toys have an educational benefit or will help your child to develop specific skills needed for later life.

Favorite toys for children (that we really think they should always have access to) and the reason why:

Puzzles

When children play with puzzles they are learning the building blocks for math and helping to shape their brain so that they can problem solve and understand spatial awareness and shape. Make sure that the puzzle has proper jigsaw pieces that clearly fit together (Melissa and Doug is my favorite puzzle maker).

Lakeshore – Plastic Pattern Blocks

These can be used in so many different ways, make a picture using the shapes, stack them, sort them, learn colors and shapes, use them as inspiration for drawings (what can you draw using this shape?) etc.

Melissa & Doug First Bead Maze

Bead mazes that are brightly colored and multi shaped are a top favorite for children. The spinning beads and slides encourage children to recognize colors and build up their hand-eye coordination. It also develops their motor skills through playing.

Lego – Classic Creative Brick Box

Lego toys are endless ones. This box includes 29 colorful Lego bricks to build whatever your child wants. Not only does it let their imagination and creativity grow, but Lego toys have lots of benefits for the long run.

Hape – Rainbow Pounder

This cute pounding bench teaches kids about colors and counting. Hammer in all the pegs, then flip it over to start again.

Little Tikes – Little Baby Bum Old Macdonald’s Memory Game

These cute little farm animals can lead to lots of fun stories that provoke different vocabulary such as big, small, same, different; they also help children learn to sort and classify by size or color. It is also a great memory game!

Lego Duplo Tow Truck Set

This small construction vehicle is a great first LEGO toy to inspire your little one’s mind and creativity. Those play sets unlock preschoolers’ imaginations with building, learning and open-ended play.

Plan Toys – Doll’s House Slide & Go

We love gender neutral doll houses because they are fun for both boys and girls. This dollhouse is made up of 3 units that it can be assembled differently for unique layouts. It is is portable and fully assembled.

Lego – Animal Train

A Pull-along animal parade toy that is perfect for little animal lovers. It offers open-ended fun, self-expression and joyful learning into preschoolers’ hands.

Melissa & Doug – Band-in-a-Box Clap! Clang! Tap!

Introduce your child to music and noise! It is vital for children to explore different sounds (and the notion of cause and effect). Let them see what happens if you are soft and gentle, or fast or slow.

Learning Resources – Handy Tools

These fun tools help children to develop their fine motor, fantastic to add to water play or sand. Or set them up in the kitchen with you and let them practice picking up rice or dried beans while you cook.

And the best part of all? You can buy all of these toys right now on Mumzworld and have them delivered straight to your door!
