There are so many things going on when you have a new baby, and one of the most forgotten of those is often to be anything for yourself! A simple way to be kind to yourself can be the introduction of using essential oils, which can combat the stress, difficulty sleeping and pain that unfortunately often accompanies you home with your little one.
Essential oils have been used for thousands of years as remedies, skin therapies, and personal fragrances. Ancient Egyptians, Greek, Indians, and Chinese all used concentrated oil from plants and herbs for a multitude of purposes. Today, essential oils are as effective as ever, but with so many different types it’s hard to know where to begin.
Mums can benefit immensely from the use of these, remember however that babies are super sensitive, and that these oils will be way too powerful and potent. Do not use essential oils around new-borns and infants, instead sprinkle them in a solo bath. Your little one is finally sleeping, you’re exhausted, and now you can get some much-needed shut-eye, but all of a sudden, your brain won’t simmer down. Many essential oils can have a relaxing effect which is the first step towards getting to sleep. Some are specifically indicated for insomnia such as lemon balm, chamomile, lavender and neroli.
We can’t write this article without mentioning frankincense – an oil that in the Middle East needs no further intro. It’s known for its rejuvenating properties and is an excellent oil to massage into stretch marks or for other healing scar tissue and skin repair. Massage into C- section scar or along with drinking plenty of water, you can apply frankincense to your temples and your scalp to relieve stress headaches.
