Mummy Time: Get Your Routine Back After Back to School

Mummy Time: Get Your Routine Back After Back to School

During school breaks, mums tend to put many things on hold. That is in order to prioritize their kids and family activities. So naturally, back to school season is the perfect time for you to get your routine back. It’s a time to get your own “mummy time” and get started on everything you’ve been putting on hold. This all starts by re planning your day. Creating a checklist for errands and chores. And even taking a little break from the busy mum life. Because we know how overwhelming it all can be both physically and emotionally. Therefore, here are some tips to help you get back to your routine after your kids go back to school.

Get Back Your Routine Back After Your Kids Go Back to School

1| Start early.

Most mums wait for school to start to get back to their routines and their mummy time. But that means you will lose at least a week to bring back your routine during your kids’ school days. We recommend starting at least a week before school starts. During this last week of vacation, plan activities and bed time that will make going back to school easier. This will help you save plenty of time, and it will allow you to dive in fully in your new routine.

2| Plan a routine for your kids as well.

When you are organized, your life will become much easier and well planned. It will do the same to your family and especially your kids. Therefore, set up a slightly different routine for your children during the last few days of their school break. Make changes to their screen time, activities, and bedtime. For instance, if your kids go to sleep at 11 during school break, change that to 9 or 9:30. This will help you avoid any hassle when it is time for back to school. Plus, this new bedtime will help your kids gradually prepare for the back to school routine.

3| Create a meal plan.

Cooking takes time, but figuring out what to cook takes even more time. That is why we highly recommend you plan the week’s meals during the weekend for instance. Plan out what you are going to cook on each day of the week on Friday night. And go out for grocery shopping on Saturday. This way your week will be looking very well planned when it comes to cooking. And you will already know what you need to buy. This will save a lot of effort and energy. As it will help you save plenty of time for your own mummy time.

4| Get enough sleep.

If you don’t sleep well, then you will not be able to finish your checklist for the day. We know, staying up late after the kids go to sleep seems tempting. But overdoing it will take a huge toll on your body and energy. So, give yourself an hour or an hour and a half after your little ones go to sleep. Relax, take a bath, read, or watch some Netflix. But don’t stay up for more than that. Going to bed early will help you be energetic throughout the day. Thus you will achieve everything you plan and still have energy for some fun on your own.

5| Plan group activities with friends.

Planning a day out with friends seemed inconvenient when the kids were at home for school break. But since they are back to school, it is time to call up your friends and plan a fun day to recharge and get some positivity in your system. You can go shopping together, spend a day at the spa getting pampered. Or try out a new restaurant or café. Whatever you feel like doing, call up your fun friends and plan it now.

6| Ask for help whenever you need it.

Doing it all by yourself can be a bit challenging. It is okay to ask for help when there is plenty to do on your checklist. Therefore, delegate and ask for help when you need it. For example, ask your husband to do the grocery shopping. Or, if you live in Dubai, use grocery shopping apps like Talabat. In addition, if your home needs plenty of cleaning, call a cleaning service to do the heavy lifting like washing curtains or cleaning windows. Remember to work smart, not hard.

7| Use your free time wisely.

Finally, make sure your mummy time is not just running errands and doing chores. Including fun activities for yourself is just as important. Sign up at a gym, take up swimming, grab a cup of coffee with a friend, or go catch a movie. Your routine should not be filled with heavy chores. But it should be balanced between responsibilities and fun. After all, when you are happy, your whole family would be happy.
